As the US deploys warships and a submarine’s in positions it could attack North Korea with, bonds between the US and Japan and China strengthen.
Pence claimed ‘President Trump is determined to work closely with Japan, with South Korea, with all our allies in the region, and with China’. Pence even later referred to Japan as an ally, who will help them reach “peace and security”.
Abe talked about seeking “diplomatic” and “peaceable settlements” as being of “paramount importance”, while Adm Harris talked of Trump’s relationship with the Chinese Present Xi Jinping as “positive and encouraging”.
Although things between the US and North Korea are currently tense, it is positive to see countries pulling together. We can only hope that the future of North Korea will lie in building similar strong connections between countries.
