“Rape clause” sees politicians and protesters unite

Arguments over the “rape clause” in Scotland have seen politicians- including Nicola Sturgeon- join a protest.

The “rape clause”, a rule that means a mother “will have to prove she has been raped” (Sturgeon) in order to claim benefits for a third child, has caused rivalry in the Scottish Parliament between Nicola Sturgeon and Ruth Davidson. Protesters outside of the Scottish Parliament were joined by Nicola Sturgeon, Willie Rennie and Kezia Dughale who believed this legally required form was “shameful and abhorrent”.

Uniting these politicians and protesters has demonstrated how we can collectively tackle issues, and will hopefully be something replicated in all areas of the UK.
