A serious of “blasts” targeting the Egyptian Coptic Church on Palm Sunday, which has killed at least 36 people, has been condemned by Pope Francis.
There were two apparent bombings, one in St Mark’s in Alexandria and one in St George’s in Tanta.
Violence against Coptic Christians has been rising, but if people from different branches of Christianity, different religions and beliefs, can condemn the attack, we can stand together against hate of this kind. Coptic Christians make up 10% of Egypt’s religious beliefs.
Although supports of Mohammed Morsi, from the Muslim brotherhood, have places the blame on the Christians themselves, Muslim’s in Egypt have previously opposed the violence towards Christians and even helped defend the Churches themselves. This solidarity can only be a positive move to a more harmonious world.
